Caring for Your Hanging Baskets

Here are some tips to help you coax the most beauty out of your hanging baskets all season long.

Watering

Check the soil moisture by touching it with your finger or lifting the basket to see if it seems heavy with water. If the soil feels dry or the basket seems light, slowly water the basket until you see water coming out of the drainage holes. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged.

Pruning

Cut away dead or dying flowers regularly to encourage the growth of new blooms. Additionally, you may want to trim back any overgrown or leggy stems to promote bushier growth and ensure the plant stays within the confines of the basket.

Rotating

You’ll want to rotate your hanging basket occasionally to promote even growth and prevent it becoming lopsided. You might even consider installing a swivel hook for easier rotation. Rotation will ensure that all parts of the plant get a consistent amount of sunlight and stay healthy.
